Google Updates the GBP Appeals Tool, Making Suspensions Easier to Navigate
If you've helped business owners recover suspended Google Business Profiles, you know one of the biggest frustrations wasn't just the suspension itself. It was figuring out what Google actually wanted you to do next.
Google has quietly refreshed the Manage Appeals Tool, and while it doesn't change the reinstatement process itself, it does make the experience much clearer.
Here are the biggest improvements we've noticed.
1. The appeal process is now broken into clear steps
Instead of dropping users into a confusing form, Google now walks you through the appeal process step by step.
You'll see:
-
Whether you're requesting a bulk reinstatement or a single profile
-
A list of eligible suspensions
-
The current appeal status
-
A dedicated page for uploading evidence
-
A final confirmation screen after submission
For business owners, this makes it much easier to understand exactly where they are in the process.

2. Google now tells you which documents they're looking for
One of the most helpful updates is that Google now explicitly lists examples of supporting documentation, including:
-
Business registration
-
Business license
-
Tax certificates
-
Utility bill
While you can still submit an appeal without documentation, Google is making it much more obvious what types of evidence can help verify your business. You can also upload additional documents not listed here, as long as the business name and address on the documents match what you’ve used on your profile.
This is especially useful for first time appeals, where many business owners simply weren't sure what to upload.
3. The additional context box is more clearly explained
The appeal form still includes a text box, but Google has improved the instructions.
Instead of simply asking for comments, it now asks you to explain:
-
Why you believe the profile should be reinstated
-
Any actions you've taken to correct the issue
This encourages business owners to provide a meaningful explanation rather than a one sentence request asking Google to restore the profile.
4. Appeal status is easier to understand
The updated tool clearly separates:
-
Appeals eligible for submission
-
Appeals currently under review
-
Completed reviews
-
Previously approved appeals
If you've had multiple suspensions or previous policy actions, it's much easier to understand what has already been reviewed and what still requires action.
5. Google reminds you that appeals are limited
The new interface prominently reminds users that:
Appeals can only be submitted once.
This is an important reminder because many business owners rush through their first appeal without submitting strong documentation or addressing the actual issue.
As we've written before, Google generally gives you one opportunity to submit an appeal through the Manage Appeals Tool, followed by one request for an additional review if the appeal is denied. That makes getting your initial appeal right incredibly important.
Our Take
This update doesn't make reinstatements easier, but it does make the appeals process much more transparent.
Business owners now have a better understanding of:
-
What documents Google is looking for
-
What information belongs in the appeal
-
Where their appeal stands
-
What happens next
-
How long the appeal decision could take
Those small improvements should reduce some of the confusion we've seen over the past couple of years.
