Do More Google Reviews Actually Mean More Leads?
Most contractors know Google reviews matter, but how much do they actually matter? Is there really a difference between having 8 reviews and 18? What about 50 or 100?
We analyzed nearly 500 active 99 Calls clients to find out. The results were hard to ignore.
The Data: More Than 10 Reviews Equals About Twice the Organic Leads
We looked at:
-
469 active businesses
-
Organic leads generated over the past six months (February through July 2026)
-
Each company's current Google Business Profile (GBP) review count
Here's what we found:
This wasn't based on one or two success stories. It came from hundreds of businesses across dozens of home service industries.
The Pattern Keeps Going
One surprise was that there wasn't a magic number where leads suddenly took off.
Instead, lead volume steadily increased as review counts increased.

The businesses with the most reviews consistently generated the most organic leads.
That tells us review generation shouldn't stop once you reach 10 reviews. Keep asking.
Is It Just Because Older Businesses Have More Reviews?
Older businesses naturally have had more time to collect reviews, so maybe that's what was driving the results. It wasn't.
The businesses with more than 10 reviews had been with us for roughly the same amount of time as those with fewer than 10 reviews.
Even after separating newer accounts from mature accounts, businesses with more reviews continued to generate significantly more organic leads. Therefore, business age wasn't the explanation.
Why Reviews Matter
Think about how homeowners hire contractors today.
Someone searches:
-
Plumber near me
-
Roof repair
-
House cleaner
-
Water damage restoration
Within seconds they're comparing businesses.
What catches their attention?
-
Star rating
-
Number of reviews
-
Recent reviews
-
Photos
-
Business information
Reviews create trust before anyone even visits your website.
Google has also stated that reviews play a role in local rankings, making them important for both visibility and click-through rates.
If your competitors have 75 recent reviews and you have 8, homeowners often make their decision before they ever click.
More Reviews Usually Mean More Trust
Reviews do more than improve rankings.
They answer the questions every homeowner is silently asking.
-
Can I trust this company?
-
Do they show up?
-
Do they do quality work?
-
Are they responsive?
-
Would someone like me hire them?
Every positive review reduces uncertainty.
That extra confidence often turns a searcher into a phone call.
This Doesn't Prove Reviews Cause More Leads
One important point. Our study found a strong correlation, not absolute proof of cause and effect.
Businesses that provide great service naturally tend to:
-
Earn more reviews
-
Receive more referrals
-
Build stronger online reputations
-
Generate more leads
All of those things work together.
However, Google's own documentation confirms that reviews are one of the signals used in local search, so they are almost certainly contributing to the higher lead volume we observed.
Reviews May Also Help Keep Clients Longer
This finding lines up with another study we recently completed.
We found that businesses with more than 10 Google reviews were significantly less likely to cancel their marketing services than businesses with very few reviews. Why?
Because they were seeing stronger marketing results.
More reviews were associated with:
-
More organic leads
-
Better business performance
-
Higher client retention
That's a powerful combination.
How to Get More Google Reviews
Many contractors make review generation harder than it needs to be.
Google has its own guide for getting more reviews, and the advice is surprisingly simple. They recommend making it easy for customers to leave feedback by sharing your Google review link or QR code, responding to reviews, and valuing honest feedback from every customer. Google also reminds businesses not to offer incentives or rewards in exchange for reviews, as doing so violates its policies.
Some simple best practices include:
-
Ask every satisfied customer before you leave the job.
-
Send a text or email with your review link immediately after service.
-
Respond to every review, both positive and negative.
-
Make review requests part of your team's daily process.
-
Keep asking consistently instead of only when business is slow.

The Bottom Line
After analyzing nearly 500 active clients, one conclusion stood out.
Businesses with more than 10 Google reviews generated about twice as many organic leads as businesses with fewer than 10 reviews. We also found that lead volume continued to increase as review counts grew.
While this study shows a strong correlation rather than direct cause and effect, it reinforces what Google and many contractors have experienced for years: reviews matter.
If growing your business is a priority, consistently asking satisfied customers for Google reviews is one of the simplest and highest-impact marketing activities you can invest in.
Every review helps build trust with potential customers, strengthens your online presence, and can improve your chances of being found when homeowners search for the services you offer. Over time, those small efforts can add up to significantly more organic leads and more opportunities to grow your business.
