Mobile Service Businesses That Could Be Getting More Leads Right Now

If you run a mobile service business, customers are already searching for it online. Most mobile service operators built their client base through word of mouth, referrals, and the occasional Facebook post. Meanwhile, the search volume and leads are there, and in most markets, the competition in digital advertising is still thin enough that getting in now makes a real difference in what you pay per lead.

Mobile Services Have Less Google Ads Competition

When people think about home service marketing, they picture plumbers and HVAC techs. Those industries have been running Google Ads for years. The competition is real, and the cost-per-lead reflects it. Plumbing runs $74 to $353 per Google Ads lead in the 99 Calls network. HVAC runs $138 to $405.

Mobile services are different. Most mobile operators built their businesses on referrals, repeat customers, and word of mouth. Which means the keyword competition is low, and the cost-per-click is low. But it also means that when someone searches "mobile mechanic near me" or "mobile dog groomer" on Google, they're often met with a thin results page; a few poorly optimized listings, maybe a Facebook page or two, and a lot of open space.

What 99 Calls' Director of SEO Says About It

Dipa Gandhi, Director of SEO at 99 Calls, noticed this pattern before most. In a recent podcast interview, she called out mobile mechanics, mobile pet groomers, and mobile detailing specifically and explained why the low advertiser competition in those categories matters right now, and what the right starting strategy looks like.

Her recommended approach: run Google Ads or Local Services Ads from the start to get leads coming in immediately, while building organic SEO in the background. The ads aren't forever; they're the bridge while your website and Google Business Profile gain traction. Once the organic side picks up, you ease off the paid spend. You're not paying for both indefinitely. You're using one to fund the other while it takes root.

Mobile Mechanics

Of the three, mobile mechanics show the starkest numbers. Across 20 accounts in the 99 Calls network, the average Google Ads cost-per-lead came out to $12.11. Total leads generated across those accounts: over 3,500.

Someone searching "mobile mechanic near me" usually has a car that won't start and a problem that needs solving today. They're not browsing, they're ready to book. So, the businesses that show up for that search are collecting leads that most of their competitors don't even know are available.

Mobile Detailers

The detailing numbers tell a slightly different story, and an even more interesting one when you look at where the leads are coming from. Across 28 accounts, 99 Calls generated 1,107 total leads for mobile detailers. Google Ads averaged $20.21 per lead while Local Services Ads came in at $5.67.

According to Homeaglow, a full detail package runs well over $100 in most markets. At $5.67 per lead, a single booked job covers an enormous amount of ad spend. The detailers running LSA right now are operating in a category where Google hasn't been flooded with advertisers yet. That's why the cost is still this low.

Mobile Pet Groomers

Pet grooming has a wrinkle the other two categories don't: trust matters more here, and it shows up in how leads actually come in. LSA comes with a "Google Screened" verification badge, and for a service where a stranger is coming to your house to handle your dog, that badge does real work.

Across 5 mobile grooming accounts, Local Services Ads and Google Ads each generated over 450 leads each, with the LSA lead cost averaging $21.72; Google Ads averaged $30.04.

Mobile Service Lead Costs May Rise as Competition Grows

Mobile service businesses are in a rare position right now. Customers are actively searching, competition is still relatively light, and lead costs remain far below what many traditional home service industries are paying. That advantage will shrink as more businesses enter the market. The companies that start building visibility now through Google Ads, Local Services Ads, and organic SEO have a chance to establish themselves before the space becomes crowded and more expensive.
